Year 3&4 students have started exploring which materials decompose by burying samples of fogo, plastic and paper bags as well as a piece of apple in soil. The students have also investigated which materials are absorbent and waterproof by testing various materials including sponges and plastic.
Year 5&6 students, as part of their kitchen chemistry unit this term, have explored the scientific concepts of melting and freezing. Students explored the concept of melting by investigating which type of chocolate (milk, white or dark) would melt the quickest and made ice cream to learn about freezing.
National Science Week this year is the 10 – 18th of August and the theme is Species Survival – More than just sustainability. To celebrate, Karoo students will participate in various science or STEM activities throughout the day on Friday 16th August.
