What's happening in Term 3 - Week 4
This time last year our school had read twice the number of books that we currently have recorded!
We know you are all reading so please log on to your Reading Challenge page, even if for the first time, it is quick and easy and it will be so good to boost our numbers for the closing date of Friday 6th September – after which time you will no longer be able to access your page. Don’t leave it up to everyone one else – you can get involved now!
A big red shiny balloon and appreciation to our regular top 5 readers this week!
Braxton R – 287 books
Noor N – 228 books
Michael F – 208 books
Ivaan G – 200 books
Shae E – 147 books
The leading year level this week is Year 2 having read 957 books and congratulations to 2F the leading grade reading 461 books!
A total of 3164 books have been read across the school and 471 book reviews have been published!
Just think about it for a moment…. if every Karoo student takes just 5 minutes to have a look through their book collections at home and then donate one or two of their preloved books this will really help to make our whole school event a great success and raise funds for a very worthwhile cause!
What we are looking for:
Look out for the collection basket located in the office foyer to drop off your books up to a week before the event date!
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation Great Book Swap Event
The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous Languages and culture, while raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
By hosting a Great Book Swap Karoo students and families will be actively helping gift 18,000 new, carefully chosen books to children in remote Communities across the country.
On the day of the event all books will be displayed on tables, students will visit the Library with their class to browse the books and 'swap' a gold coin for a book.

Friday 23rd August at 9:15am
Have you begun to plan your costume yet?
Are you maybe dressing up with a friend?
Can you guess who Mrs Heatley might be this year?
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for a morning filled with sunshine for our annual book parade in just 14 sleeps!
We are super excited that the amazing Alpha Shows are returning to Karoo in less than 2 weeks to help us celebrate Book Week with an amazing production of The Snow Queen.
The show is guaranteed to energize and brings awareness to the following topics; confidence, bullying, equality, social skills, emotional resilience, positive beliefs, self-worth and loving choices.
The Snow Queen show has been re-imagined to emphasize the transformative power of community, learning, and the dangers of isolation and fear. This is incredibly impactful for students who continue to struggle with attendance, overwhelm, anxiety, or other social and emotional challenges, whether due to the lockdowns or other factors.
