Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back everyone! I trust that everybody had some quality time with family and friends and kept warm! Term three is an exciting term for Woori Yallock P.S. The grade 3/4 camp to Sovereign Hill, the ski trip, hoop time and we will be running a junior school and senior school dance concert at the end of the term. The school will continue working on it’s improvement priorities, which is reading comprehension and spelling.

NAPLAN

Last week we were given the results of the NAPLAN tests that the grade 3’s and 5’s completed in March. The school once again received outstanding results. Out of the ten categories we are judged against we were higher than similar schools (same size and same demographic) and network schools in 8 out of the ten categories. Although all our results are good, the most pleasing results are when we are compared to similar schools across the northeast region, we are number one in grade 5 numeracy, number three in grade 3 numeracy and number three in both grade 3 & 5 writing, over the past two years. That is truly amazing for our school and makes me so proud of our students and teachers.

ENROLEMENTS FOR 2025

I believe that as our teachers continue to do an ‘outstanding’ job with our students we will continue to be the destination school for local families. This year we have already capped our numbers in the 5/6 area and have had to say ‘no’ to some families that wanted to enrol their children from outside our zone. Along with our school’s leadership team, I will begin planning for next year this term (time flies). If you know of any families that wish to enrol for the 2025 school year, please ask them to fill in the paperwork ASAP. The cut off day for Prep enrolment paperwork is this Friday.

Unfortunately, we already know that some families from outside our school zone will miss out on a place at our school. The rules are: In zone families get a place, siblings of students already at the school get a place and then it is the next closest to the school from out of our zone.

THE OLYMPICS

The Olympics are a wonderful event for schools because they provide a rich opportunity to engage students with their learning. This will happen across the school in the coming weeks. The photos below are of our Prep students who are taking part in the Potato Olympics.

CONGRATULATIONS

A big congratulations to Liam Brandenberger for winning a scholarship to Billanook Secondary College. We know scholarships are very difficult to win but Liam is an outstanding student, and we wish him all the best at his chosen school. Go Liam!

STEPS MORNING TEA

This week I had morning tea with all of last terms ‘Steps’ winners. We all ate lots and had a ball. A big thank you to our chef Sandy!

 Have a great week!

And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book!
