Music Matters

HSC Drama Performances: Congratulations to Ms Penny Lindley and the Year 12 Drama students on their brilliant HSC Trial Individual and Group Performances last Sunday in the Sarto. Their talents and hard work were certainly enjoyed by all who attended.

Exciting Percussion Workshop event:

We are excited to be holding a special percussion masterclass for all our percussionists in Week 3, next Monday, 5 August from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm in the Band Room which will be supervised by Mr Ian Talati. This is open to all our percussionists throughout the College, at no charge. We hope that all our percussion students will be able to embrace this valuable opportunity. Students should bring afternoon tea and water.

This workshop will be held by Dr Michael Crawford who is coming to Australia to adjudicate the Drumline Championships. Dr Crawford is highly regarded in the field of percussion and drumlines and is a Lecturer of Music Education at the University of North Texas. He also works within the Percussion Area, overseeing all curriculum and instruction for the percussion methods courses and co-directing the UNT Percussion Group percussion ensemble.

If your son is unable to make this workshop, please send an email to: sperformingarts@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.  Should your son have sports training on this day, he should speak to his coach about whether he is able to miss a training to attend this important masterclass.

Drama Matters

HSC Drama Trial Performances

On Sunday the Year 12 Elective Drama students successfully performed their Group and Individual Performances to an invited audience and external markers. For the GP this is the culmination of their Term 2 work and is a version of what they will present to the HSC NESA markers in August when it is assessed externally. This is the first time it has been seen by parents and peers. The GP is an 8-12 minute original play written and performed by the students and they have worked hard generating material and working out their characters and physical blocking. Students also presented their Major Works: Performance and every student chose to act out a character in a 6–8-minute monologue. Congratulations to all students in the work they have presented so far.

Oliver Twist Auditions

Please see the poster for details about the upcoming auditions for the next school play which will be performed next year (Week 1, Term 2) at the Zenith Theatre in Chatswood. Auditions are coming up in August and are open to any student from Years 7-11. Students are asked to prepare a short speech, and the text can be obtained from Ms Lindley. It takes over 50 characters to tell the story of Oliver Twist. You do not have to take Elective Drama to audition for a role. There will be a information session coming you very soon so watch this space!
