Senior School Report

Mr Ernest Price, Acting Head of Senior School

Semester 1 has been a huge learning experience for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. They have grappled with challenging curriculum content, engaged with the world of work and pushed themselves out of their comfort zones.

Senior Exams

The Senior School recently ran three weeks of exams to assess the students in Years 10, 11 and 12. By our best calculations, there were over 120 examinations - a huge undertaking for staff and students alike. We were thoroughly impressed by students’ application during the examinations, and we saw many students pushing themselves to show the learning growth that they had achieved throughout the Semester.

Examinations provide an important tool for students and staff to reflect on their work across the first two terms, and to set new goals for the rest of the year. We encourage you to talk with students about their successes and their areas for improvement as they continue to work towards their future aspirations.

Careers Expo

Senior School students took part in the magnificent Careers Expo, organised by the school’s Careers and Pathways team. Falling just before the examination period, the Expo provided inspiration for students who came away with a new burst of energy, inspired for what might lie in their future.

It is a great time to speak with these students about how their efforts in the classroom and at home can help them take steps towards the future that they want for themselves.

Year 10 Mystery Night

Year 10 students took another step into their future on Thursday 16th May, banding together to solve a murder mystery. Working with groups of their peers, students raced

against the clock to earn clues and identify the perpetrator of a heinous crime on campus.

Thank you to the Year 10 Coordination team, who provided this wonderful opportunity for students, and to the students who participated with good humour and excellent teamwork.

Year 10 Work Experience Program

The Year 10's finished off Term 2 by completing Work Experience and CAPs Health Days workshops set by Mr McNicol. Year 10 students completed a 4 day program aimed to

provide support as they navigate their way through the challenging teenage years.

Students engaged with feedback about their recent examinations, heard from the important Pat Cronin Foundation, and participated in a competitive afternoon of trivia. They also looked at their personal character strengths, and undertook mock interviews. It was an excellent week of reflection and development.

The Year 10 Work Experience program ran in the final week of term, spearheaded by Mr DeAraugo and Mr Tung.

This is an exciting time for students who get to see the world through a different lens. They either return to school the following term with extra determination to study towards their chosen goal, and/or get excited about potential careers and pathways. Please take every opportunity to speak with students about their experiences at work, and guide them

to reflect on what this might mean for the remainder of their time at school and their future pathways.

Athletics Carnival

Senior students took a leadership role in the College’s Athletics Carnival on May 13th. From assisting with the running of events, to the annual Year 12 parade of costumes, students showcased the school values as they participated with energy and enthusiasm.
