Personal History Guest Speakers
This term in Topic, the unit of learning for the Junior School students is Personal Histories. The children will be learning about their own history and that of their family, including exploring stories from different cultures and other parts of the world.
Through many different learning experiences, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of how the past is different from the present, as well as being taught historical concepts and skills, including chronology, continuity, and change.
To begin the unit of learning, each class created a world map, which showcased the various geographical and cultural backgrounds in our Junior School community. The children were fascinated with the diversity that exists in our very own classrooms.
To further immerse the students in the historical stories of our families, we invited family members to present their own personal history to the P-2 children. We are beyond grateful to our 6 fabulous guest speakers, who shared stories of:
The children were captivated; listening to these different life stories and carefully studying the photographs that demonstrated a very different way of living to their lives today.
It was also a particularly special moment for the children of the presenters; who stood proudly alongside their parents. A BIG thank you for the time and engaging presentations of the guest speakers. It is not easy to speak in front of 150 young children and you all did a fabulous job!
The children were also lucky enough to taste a special treat from Argentina called 'dulce de leche'!
Please see our fabulous guest speaker presentations below!
We are often on the lookout for different parents who may have expertise in the different topics we explore. In Term Four, our topic areas are ‘Biological Sciences’ & ‘Physical Sciences’.
Please let us know if you would love to help.
