Principal message
Good Afternoon Families,
The 'Bullying No Way' National Day of Action has become a National Week of Action! Everyone Belongs is this year’s theme and as we head into next week (Monday 12 August to Friday 16 August 2024), there are countless opportunities to participate in Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative which connects schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying. We look forward to participating in a number of school based activities to highlight the need to support one another and to act with care and kindness. We encourage everyone to come with 'A touch of Purple' on Friday 16th as a culmination of the week.
A big thank you to Mr Epps and Mrs Miller for all their work in ensuring our athletics carnival was a great success. whilst the clouds were a little ominous early in the day we certainly has ideal conditions for active participation and fun. It was great to see the encouragement offered to team mates and the support given to the younger children by our older students. The day ran like clockwork and we wish all the children going forward representing St Monicas at the district sports every success. (See the sport page for photos and student recap)
The Grade 3/4 Unit excursion to Melbourne was another exciting opportunity for the children and was a wonderful success. Thanks to all staff and volunteers who ensured the day was a great learning opportunity away from the classroom. Our grade 2's will be heading out a little closer to home on Friday to the Central Deborah Goldmine, Talking Tram and touring the Sacred Heart Cathedral providing the children with opportunities to add to their wonderings and answer questions they may already have about Bendigo and its history. (See the News page for photos)
Adding to the busyness of school I know the children and I suspect a few teachers are looking forward to the Book Week Parade the following Monday 19th August on the lower yard. This years theme is is 'Reading is Magic' AND I am sure to see many outfits along this line as well as some other exciting characters. (See the dates to remember page for more info)
Mr Moloney will be departing at the conclusion of next week. We wish him all the best for what comes next in his career and travels and thank him for the time he has spent at St Monicas.
We will welcome Trish Adams to the 5/6M class for the rest of term 3 and know that she is looking forward to working with the children and their families.
Furthermore Mr Anthony Chalkley has accepted the role for term 4 and into the future. Anthony has a vast experience in education as both teacher and leader and will move from Catherine McAuley College to join our team for term 4. I am sure everyone will welcome both Trish and Anthony as they work in our school.
Kind Regards,
Paul Wilkinson
