Level 1

Level 1

Our level 1 students have had so much fun following the Olympic Games. As part of our ‘HEPS and Beyond’ Inquiry unit, the Olympic Games enabled us to find out where our country is in relation to the rest of the world. We were able to make connections to many different countries because many of us were born in other countries or have parents and grandparents who were born overseas. On a map of the world we found the country we came from and the country we now live in.  As the Olympic Games came to an end, we held our own Mini-Olympics. Our classes rotated to compete in four different events. We found that throwing a paper plate discus was very challenging. We had to really concentrate to get a basketball in a tub. Hurdles and High jump challenged us, as did badminton played with a balloon. We didn’t need medals because we were all great. Our prize was the fun we had. In Literacy we have been learning how to predict and make inferences about the texts and pictures we see. We gather as much evidence as possible and use our prior knowledge to draw conclusions and make inferences. We are learning to write in greater detail by thinking about what we see, think and wonder. We are slowing down our writing process so that we can think more about our ideas.  In Numeracy we are learning how to group objects and share them.
