Level  5

Reading

We have been loving exploring the ideas in ‘Boy Overboard’ by Morris Gleitzman and discussing how the author develops the characters through the text. We have been using thinking routines, such as ‘Think Pair Share’ and ‘See Think Wonder’ to make our thinking visible, allowing us to learn from each other.

Writing

We have been using our knowledge of Realistic Fiction texts to create our own stories. We have been heavily focussed on developing ideas indepth, which will assist us in creating an amazing writing piece. We have used various mentor texts, such as ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler and deconstructed the plot of these stories. We analysed and discussed the beginning, middle and end of the story, as well as the problems and how they were solved.

Numeracy/Inquiry

We have just begun planning a European holiday. Firstly, we developed a budget to stick to and are in the early stages of planning where we will go, what we want to see and looking at the cost of flights and accommodation – What an eye opener that has been! We are looking forward to showing our families the amazing holidays we have planned!

On Friday last week, we were involved in a ‘Mini Olympics’ with our friends in Level 1. We had so much fun being role models and encouraging our partners.

Looking ahead:

We are heading to Bayswater Secondary School on Wednesday 18th September – please provide consent on Compass.
