Messages from the Principal

Welcome to another fortnight NPS Newsletter!

As they are most weeks, it has been yet another vibrant and energising few weeks at school, with students and staff doing amazingly in settling into the rhythm of the school year. Classrooms have been buzzing with curiosity with learning spaces feeling full of enthusiasm and purpose.

Although I was unable to get down to the SLA camp over the past few days, from all reports it appears as though it has been a raging success. Seeing the images and photos via Instagram just highlighted what a great camp experience this is. I am sure that we'll have some very tired students, staff, and parent helpers, returning this afternoon!

In a few weeks time, the MLA students will have their chance to attend their MLA camp in Anglesea which is always a great experience.

I would like to thank and acknowledge all those parents/care givers that have offered to assist with our morning Breakfast Club. THANK YOU!  Seeing our students dig into a hearty breakfast a few mornings a week certainly is a highlight and something that cannot run without the help of our families.

A reminder that we have a Pupil Free Day next Friday 6th March. All staff will be attending their final day of training, after having completed 3 days last year, of the Berry Street Education Model. The BSEM is grounded in 25 years of trauma-informed practice, positive psychology, and the science of learning. Over the past 12months, we have built, and will continue to build on, the development of a consistent and predictable whole-school approach that supports all students and their wellbeing. This work has included yet is certainly not limited to;

  • Introducing morning circles,
  • Strengthening our predictable and consistent routines,
  • Introducing student 'Ready to Learn' scales,
  • and developing self and co-regulation strategies and capacity.

Finally, I am pleased to share that School Council nominations have been extended to Thursday 5th March. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to contribute to the strategic direction of the school and play an active role in shaping our school's future. If you’ve been considering getting involved, now is the perfect time.

Nomination forms are available from the office, and our office staff are happy to answer any questions you may have about the process or the commitment involved.

Thank you everyone for once again reading this fortnights newsletter.

Have a GREAT weekend.

Corrie Barclay
