Welcome to an exciting 2026 for sport at Tally State School. We are ready to get into our sport programs and watch our students develop their skills and abilities.    

 

What We are Learning in Term 1

Students will develop their skills in a variety of sports by working on specific skills and using them in modified games. Students are also looking at the benefits of being physically active and healthy through their units this term. In week 10 we will have our whole school Cross Country race; the students will be working towards this by developing their running skills in their lessons.

 

Prep - Fundamental Movement program

Year 1- Fundamental Movement program

Year 2 - Skill development - Overarm throwing, catching, striking and running  

Year 3 - Active choices - Making active choices to keep our body moving and healthy   

Year 4 - Active for Life unit- Benefits of being active and moving our body   

Year 5 - Let’s be active unit – Introduction to elements of fitness and how they can be useful for our body

Year 6 - Fitness fun unit- Looking at various elements of fitness and how they can be beneficial for your body

 

Tallebudgera School-based Carnivals

Throughout the year our students will be able to compete in our school-based carnivals. These carnivals are used to select our school team to compete at the Oceanic Carnivals for students aged 10 - 12 years. 

 

Term 1 - Cross Country 

Term 2 - Athletics Carnival 

Term 4 - Year 3 - 6 Swimming Carnival  

 

 

Tallebudgera Sporting Academies

This year we are very excited to kick off our 3 sporting academies (Surfing, Touch football and Rugby league) for our Tallebudgera SS students. The reason behind the academies is to allow our students the opportunity to be extended even further into development and competition within a sport. Students will be working on the physical element of the sport but also strategy, emotional resilience, teamwork, communication, leadership development along with opportunities to compete at a high level against our local schools. Surfing Academy: (Year 3 - 6)

There will be a Development Squad and Competition Squad:

 

Development Squad: This is for our beginner to intermediate surfers who are developing their surfing skills and confidence. The students will train with Currumbin Alley Surf School on Tuesday mornings from 6:30am – 7:30am in Term 1 and Term 4. The program will be offered in 5 week blocks each term. The cost is $150 for the 5 sessions which is paid to the surf school. Starting on Tuesday 24 February. 

 

Competition Squad: Any students that are working toward competition training will be given the option to train with high performance coach Mark Richardson. This is for students who are capable and confident heading out the back and catching waves by themselves and are training for competitions. These sessions run on a Wednesday morning from 5:15am -7:00am at a cost of $50 a session. 

 

Students that are working towards competitions will have the opportunity to trial to compete in 3 competitions throughout the year against some of our local schools. The Currumbin Classic in Term 1 (26 March), Cooly Classic in Term 2 (date TBC) and the Palm Beach Classic in Term 3 (TBC). Parents will be responsible for transporting students to and from sessions and must also be present during the sessions. 

 

Touch Football Academy: (Year 3 - 6)

Students will train one day a week before school to develop their skills. There will also be trials during Term 3 to select teams to compete at the QLD Allschools touch comp in Term 4. Year 3 - 4 Development program - Developing fundamental touch skills. Year 5 - 6 Develop into competition - Building on skills to develop strategy and plays at a higher level. 

 

Rugby League Academy: (Year 3 - 6)

Students will train on Thursday mornings in 5 to 6 week blocks in Term 1, 2 and 3. Students will focus on developing skills along with building knowledge in strategy, critical thinking and building emotional and mental resilience through training. Guest speakers will be attending throughout the year to talk to our students and students may have the opportunity to compete in some interschool challenges. 

 

Oceanic Swimming

Next Thursday our top 10 –12 year old swimmers will compete at the Oceanic Swimming Carnival at the Southport Aquatic Centre. Good luck to our swimmers representing Tally SS. 

 

Year 3 - 4 Interhouse Gala Day

This year we are introducing our year 3 - 4 Interhouse Gala Day. During week 9 of this term students will spend a day competing in a variety of sports in their house against the other houses. The main goal of our Gala Day is to provide our students opportunities to be involved in team-based games with an introduction to competition in variety of sports. 

 

Year 5 - 6 Friday Afternoon and Interschool Sport

This term we kick off our Friday sport for our year 5 and 6 students. Students will head out every Friday (weather permitting) and play in a variety of sports. In Term 2 our students will paraticpate in the annual Game on Day, which is a day dedicated to teaching our students teamwork, leadership, communication skills along with healthy habits and sportsmanship to allow them to compete confidently at our interschool carnivals. 

 

Term 1- Interhouse sporting challenge. Students get the opportunity to compete against the other houses in oztag, tennis, netball, soccer, AFL and ultimate frisbee. The students have the chance to play these sports this term before they select their sport for interschool sporting days in Term 2 and 3 (which will also include rugby league). 

 

Term 2 and 3 - Students will train every Friday at school and compete against a number of other schools in our interschool sporting days where they will play in their chosen sport. 

 

Term 4 - Recreational sport - Friday afternoon - Students select an adventure or recreation sport (surfing, golf, ten pin bowling, pickleball, mountain biking, hip hop dance, orienteering) and learn the skills and develop their abilities in their chosen sport. 

 

Interschool Carnivals

This year we have some exciting interschool carnivals coming up. 

 

Term 1- Currumbin Classic - Surf comp

Term 2 - QCUP AFL, Kirra Classic - Surf comp

Term 3 - Rugby League Gala Day, Allschools Oztag, SEQ Netball, Palm Beach Classic - Surf comp

Term 4 - Allschools Touch 

 

Oceanic District Trials

There are a number of Oceanic District trials for students that are aged 10 - 12 years and are playing a sport at a very high level. Please check the ClassDojo post outlining steps for students to nominate for these trials. 

 

Running Club (Year 1 - 6)

Running Club is back on for another year. The training is for students who want to improve and develop their running. We meet at the hall every Friday (starting week 5) at 8:00am and train until 8:30am. We work on distance running, sprint training and overall fitness development.
