School Communication

The school has a variety of ways we work with you to connect and communicate.

Newsletter

Published fortnightly in a paperless format. Newsletters can be viewed on our website, via a link on Facebook, on Sentral, or emailed to you. Please contact the office if you wish to be added to the newsletter email list or if you are unable to access any electronic options.

Permission Notes

These will be generated through Sentral, including permission and payment links.

Facebook

Teaching staff share the amazing things that happen at our school. We also use Facebook to update families on time changes and excursion return times.

School Website

Maintained and updated regularly. Past newsletters are also stored here.

Sentral

Our main communication platform for attendance and upcoming events on the school calendar.

School Uniforms

School uniforms are available online through the Sentral app for ordering and payment, or for purchase at the front office.

Uniform purchases made at the front office are cash only. Please understand that uniforms cannot be provided until full payment has been received.

School Voluntary Contributions

Each year, the school asks for a small contribution towards resourcing. The contribution remains at $40 per child ($10 per term) and supports stationery, classroom resources, and subjects such as Visual Arts. This equates to approximately $1 per week and significantly assists the school.

School Times and Supervision

Supervision before school is provided 30 minutes before bell time only. At Yanco Public School, supervision commences at 8.40am, with the school day beginning at 9.10am.

Students are not to arrive before 8.35am unless prior arrangements have been made. Even if a teacher is onsite, they cannot supervise early arrivals. This is essential for student safety.

At 3.10pm, when the bell rings, students are expected to leave the school grounds unless they are:

  • Waiting for the bus, or
  • Remaining with prior arrangements made with the school.

Attendance

Sentral is our primary attendance communication platform. A daily automated text message is sent for unexplained absences or late arrivals. Please respond promptly.

It is a legal requirement that students attend school every day and arrive on time.

Absences must be explained within seven school days using one of the following methods:

  • Text: 0487 217 424 (include student name, date, and reason)
  • Verbal: Phone call to the school office
  • Written: Note or letter from a parent or doctor
  • Email: yanco-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
  • School App: Sentral

If a student is absent for three days without notification, the school is required to contact families by phone or text.

Late arrivals must be signed in at the front office to avoid a full-day absence being recorded.

We are proud that the majority of our students maintain 95% attendance, which greatly supports learning and friendships.

Signing In and Out

All parents, carers, and visitors must sign in and out at the front office when entering the school during school hours. Entry to the school is only permitted via the office.

This is a Department of Education requirement and a WHS safety measure in case of emergency.

Child Protection Education

As part of the PDHPE curriculum, students participate in Child Protection lessons in Term 3. A letter outlining lesson content will be sent home prior to commencement.

Lessons help students identify unsafe situations, seek help from trusted adults, and understand body changes using correct terminology. These lessons are developed by the NSW Department of Education and are a key priority.

Please contact the Principal or your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

Scripture

A scripture update form has been sent home with all students. Please discuss options with your child and return the form as soon as possible so groups can be finalised.

Written notice is required to withdraw or change scripture groups. Students are expected to behave respectfully during scripture lessons with volunteer teachers.

Scholastic Book Club

The Scholastic Book Club runs regularly, offering students access to affordable books. Brochures are sent home twice per term. There is no obligation to order.

How to order:

  • Complete the order form and return it with correct cash or cheque (payable to Yanco Public School)
  • Order online via the LOOP platform at scholastic.com.au/LOOP
  • Gift orders can be held at the office for collection if requested

Each order helps earn free books and resources for classrooms.

Golden Apple IGA Shopping Rewards

Thank you to Golden Apple IGA for continuing to support Yanco Public School through its shopping docket reward system. Please send all shopping dockets to the school, as a percentage of purchases is returned to support school programs.
