What's happening in our classroom?
Literacy
As part of our literacy learning students will be starting a new unit titled, 'Into the Unknown'. This unit will build upon our knowledge of maps as we start to learn about the reasons that motivated early explorers to explore other lands. Within this unit of learning students will be working on their fluency, comprehension and vocabulary knowledge.
Numeracy
Moving forward in our mathematics learning students will be focusing on addition and subtraction. Students will be learning efficient mental and written strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems. Students will practise using the compensation strategy for solving addition and subtraction problems before exploring how to use an algorithm to solve three and four digit equations.
Inquiry
As part of out Inquiry learning, students will focus will be on how living things depend on each other within an ecosystem. Students will explore how animals obtain their food, learn about producers, consumers and decomposers, and investigate local habitats to see these roles in action. They will research food chains, compare different habitats, and predict what happens when a food source is removed. Students will learn about how to categorise living things into groups such as consumers and producers. We will then explore different types of consumers such as carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
Well-being
Over the next two weeks we will be working on:
- defining what is stress?
- identifying triggers
- understanding stress is the physical response our body has to strong emotions

Celebration of Learning
Meet the Teacher Afternoon
We loved having some many friendly faces join us in our classroom for this years 'Meet the Teacher' afternoon. It was an awesome chance to meet and talk while each student made their own 'Proud Peacock' to display in the classroom.
