Reminders

* Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.

* Please don't forget to pack your child's hat in their school bags.

* Book satchels are needed on Wednesdays if students are wanting to borrow a book to take home.

* If your child can't tie their shoelaces, could this please be a focus at home to ensure their safety when walking around in the yard at recess and lunch times.

*We will be locking our double entrance doors in the mornings to reduce students coming in and out before school. We will endeavour to unlock the door by 8.40am.

* Please be mindful that mornings are a time filled with lesson prepping, staff collaboration and preparation for the day. We are always happy to schedule meetings with parents and guardians on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, alternatively feel free to email us with any questions, comments or concerns.

Upcoming Learning:

Literacy

  • In phonics, we will continue our Stage 7.4 Review, deepening knowledge of prior learning and expanding ability to read multi-syllabic words. We will also be working on our comprehension by partner reading our fluency text, Slime Time, and answering questions
  • We are well into our unit, Geography of Australia, and the Grade 2 students have AMAZED us with their enthusiasm towards learning and ability to absorb information. Ask them how many states and territories are in Australia, what the capital cities are, the different ecosystems that exist and maybe even where in the world we are located! They may even surprise you with some knowledge of the compass! Our next unit will be Uluru!
  • Library has started and students are LOVING relaxing with some good books!

Numeracy

  • Students are continuing to practise using their Maths grid books to lay out their work in a neat and tidy manner.
  • Revising content learnt during quick Daily Review Maths sessions
  • Placing three-digit numbers on a number line as a tool to compare and order
  • Students will be graphing the data collected about cars driving past or shoe colours.

Wellbeing

  • Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships - identifying emotions and triggers
  • We focused on 'What is stress?' in preparation for developing our Ready to Learn scales
  • Setting up our Ready to Learn scales and plans.

Science

  • Our science unit: Needs of Plants and Animals has begun! Rumour has it we might even be having a special visitor in the coming weeks to speak with us about the creation of the new 'Elephant Walk' at Werribee Zoo...keep your eyes peeled and ears to the ground!
  • In this unit students will learn about the needs of plants and animals and how places they live meet those needs. They will make close observations of a tree and conduct an experiment with seedlings grown under different conditions. Students will learn about being responsible pet owners and investigate an animal's habitat and how it meets their needs. They will design a zoo enclosure and explore some animal totems in First Nations Australian culture. It is going to be an AMAZING unit full of fun learning.

A Celebration of Learning
