Students have focused on including vivid vocabulary, show don’t tell, and imagery using the five senses...

As the door of the car swung open and I stepped out, the familiar scent of sweat and grass ignited my passion. I was glad to be back. The dewy grass beckoned me, and I remembered this was where I could share the best and worst moments with the people I look up to. As I reached the club house, my friends waved and engulfed me in happiness. None of us had seen each other in what felt like an eternity. My hand slid into the bag and grasped my hockey stick. Memories flooded back to me. Gruelling games, devastating losses, and incredible wins. I looked around at my team and realised I was home. My first goal, our first win. These moments would be shared together with people I call my family.

After 7 years of primary school I have made it to high school. I was very excited to move onto the next chapter of my life and make new friends. I stepped out of the car onto the hard dirt saying "bye", ready for what's ahead. I felt a cool breeze blowing my hair, as I was stepping down the steps and seeing all of my friends. I knew this was going to be a good year.

The first time I saw Mt Eliza Secondary College, my chest tightened in a mix of amazement, disbelief and nervousness. The gleaming sun glinted on the intricate fish sculptures at the front of school; an act of beauty, placed for all to see. The colourful gardens were bursting with vibrant, sweet-smelling flowers. Painted bird baths were filled with rippling, crystal clear water and loud, lively birds. The classrooms were not cheap portables as I'd expected, but instead, cheery brick building blocks with large windows that allowed sunlight to illuminate the floors. The air outside smelt cool and crisp and was filled with the sound of chirping birds and students jostling each other around, their laughs ringing through the campus.
