We proudly welcomed our newest Preps to CPS, and it was beautiful  to see their bright smiles and excitement as they stepped into their new learning spaces. Our prep teachers, Suzanne Bolger, Penny Bradley and Lexie Fazio created organised, and engaging classrooms, ensuring every child felt comfortable and ready to embark on their learning journey.

A special thank you to our Parents and Friends Association (PFA) for hosting the much-loved ‘Tissues and Tears’ morning tea for our new Prep families. This event was a success, with new faces coming together to connect, share, and support one another. Our PFA President, Bart Wildash, and a very helpful team of PFA members extraordinaire made themselves available for a chat and supported the clean up afterward. Your efforts in fostering a welcoming school community are truly appreciated!

Raising Classroom Concerns – A Respectful Approach

We are committed to creating a supportive and respectful environment for all students. We understand that, at times, concerns may arise regarding your child’s experiences at school. To ensure these matters are addressed effectively, we follow a structured approach.

Your child’s classroom teacher(s) are your first point of contact regarding your child, and they are keen to work in partnership with families to provide the best possible support.

Teachers begin their school day at 8:45am. Mornings are a busy time as staff prepare for learning to commence, so we ask that families refrain from approaching teachers before school, as this can impact the smooth start to the day for students.

If you need to contact your child’s teacher, please do so via Compass, or arrange a meeting. Staff are not available on Mondays and Wednesdays as they are engaged in scheduled professional learning after school.

If, after this conversation, you feel that further support or clarification is required, the concern can then be escalated to the appropriate member of the school leadership team. This ensures concerns are triaged thoughtfully and addressed at the right level, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for your child.

If the matter is in relation to:

Behaviour: Please see our Assistant Principal (Amanda Miller)

Learning and Inclusion: Genevieve Murtagh (Grades Prep-2) or Theresa Blaauw (Grades 3-6)

Wellbeing: Please see our school's Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer (MHWL) (Janette Taylor)

Our School Improvement / Leadership team is well-equipped to provide guidance and implement appropriate support strategies.

In extreme circumstances, concerns may be referred to me. However, our goal is always to address issues at the most appropriate level, ensuring timely and effective resolutions.

Why this process matters

Following this pathway supports clear communication, strong partnerships, and a shared focus on student learning and wellbeing.

We also want to emphasise the importance of respecting school protocols. At no stage should concerns be discussed with another parent regarding their child, nor should matters be taken up with any child other than your own. These guidelines are in place to maintain the safety, privacy, and well-being of all students and families within our school community.

We appreciate your cooperation in following these procedures and working together to create a positive learning environment for every student.

Attendance

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to support your child’s learning and wellbeing. Our first bell rings at 8:55am, signalling for students to move to their line-up areas before heading into class. Rolls are marked at 9:00am.

Students arriving after 9:00am must be signed in at the office by a parent or carer and issued with a late pass to give to their classroom teacher. Students are not permitted to sign themselves in.

If your child is absent, please record an attendance note via the Compass app, including the reason for the absence. Any unexplained absences will result in an SMS notification at 10:00am advising that your child has been marked absent.

In line with our Attendance Policy, attendance and punctuality are monitored regularly by the leadership team. Families may be contacted if we notice patterns of absences or frequent late arrivals. These conversations are always supportive in nature, as we are keen to work with families to ensure the best outcomes for students.

Mobile Phones & Wearable technology: The Department has a policy for Mobile phones that we enact and ask families to support us in. This can also include the use of wearable technology. Our aim is to keep our students focussed on their learning. If you need to communicate something to your child, please contact Clementine, Leesa or Roxy in the main admin office and they will follow up at break times.

Reminder: Please Use the School Crossing: We kindly ask all families to use the supervised school crossing when arriving or leaving school. Crossing at the corner just up from the crossing can create unexpected hazards for both pedestrians and drivers and sets a confusing example for students learning safe road habits. Using the designated crossings helps keep everyone safe during busy drop‑off and pick‑up times. Thank you for helping us model safe behaviour for our children.

Warm Regards,
