Year 2
Spotlight on Learning
Damascus Community
Dear Families,
We have enjoyed another wonderful week of learning in the Damascus community. The children are arriving each day ready to learn and consistently showing how well prepared they are for their learning. They have been proudly demonstrating our schoolwide expectations of Safety, Respect and Learning.

Friendly Reminder: Please ensure your child is in the correct school uniform and has their name on items that come off and on during the day. This includes jumpers and jackets. We have a lot of lost property at school to check if needed.
Please no toys to come to school! This includes smart watches.
Remember: At St Thomas we are Sun Safe Champions! We must remember our hats in Term One.

Community time on a Friday afternoon
This is when we celebrate those who are having a birthday or receive an asembly certificate. We also use this time for community messages and Religious Education

Assembly Award Winners
Congratualtions Milo, Aria, Leo and Zachary

This week we learnt about:
Religious Education: In Religious education we are learning about prayer. We are learning about different types of prayer and ways in which we can pray. As a class, we designed a prayer for us to use during morning prayer.

Mathematics: We are continuing to focus on number and this week we had a look at the value of digits in a three digit number. To describe our learning, we used a VSL.

Structured Literacy: This week we read the story, 'Australia is our Home'. This story tells us about lots of children that live in Australia but are from other countries around the world. We had a look at where all these places are on a map as that links with our Geography unit.

Auslan: In Auslan we are revisiting greetings and the importance of eye contact and facial expressions. Ask your child what kind of greetings we learnt.

Social & Emotional Learning: In Social and Emotional learning we revisited the St Thomas Way about being an Upstander. We have the POWER! Ask your child what each of the letters mean and how they can be an upstander at St Thomas.

Integrated Studies: In Geo
graphy we are looking at human made features of the Earth and natural features of the Earth. Here is what we have done so far in our unit.

How you can support at home:
Families play an important role in supporting learning at school, and there are many simple ways you can help at home. You can ask your child about the book we read this week and how it connects to your family. They can also share what they thought of the book. Ask your child about some of the countries they have heard of this week and what continent they are on.
For Maths, you can support your child by practising reading, writing, and recognising numbers up to 1000 in everyday situations, such as reading house numbers, prices at the shops, or page numbers in books. These small, regular conversations help build confidence and reinforce learning in a meaningful way.
