Year 6

Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families & Friends,

Week 3 has seen our Year 6 students settle confidently into the St Thomas Way. It has been wonderful to see them demonstrating responsibility, respect and readiness for learning in all areas of school life. On Wednesday, the Year 3 and Year 6 students attended Mass together. This was a special opportunity for our senior students to model reverence and leadership within our school community.

English – Exploring Rivet Boy

In Reading, students have continued exploring Rivet Boy, developing a deeper understanding of the text through the use of comprehension strategies taught in class. They are making thoughtful predictions, identifying key themes and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text.

In Writing, students are focusing on persuasive texts. They can now confidently recall the structure of a persuasive piece and are working on planning and writing strong body paragraphs to support their arguments with clear reasoning and evidence.

Mathematics – Order of Operations

In Maths, students have been learning about the order of operations, including the use of brackets (for example: 10 × (4 + 5)). They are also using VSL charts to clearly explain their mathematical thinking and show how they arrived at their answers. It has been fantastic to see students justifying their reasoning with increasing confidence.

Intergrated Studies – Controlled Burning

In Integrated Studies, students are learning about ‘Country’ from a First Nations perspective. They are exploring the purpose of controlled burning practices and developing an understanding of the deep spiritual connections Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with the land.

  • Return permission forms for the swimming lessons in week 6 and 7 and Kingswim.
  • Please make sure all uniform items are clearly labelled with your child’s name using a black marker to help prevent items from being misplaced.
