Sports Bulletin

Can you believe we are already halfway through Term 1?
A big congratulations to all students who have participated in recent TCS Trials. We also extend our best wishes to those selected for the Regional Teams as they prepare for the upcoming Peninsula Trials.
Our Year 12 House Leaders have been working hard behind the scenes to prepare for the first of our Interhouse Carnivals —the Interhouse Swimming Carnival. During Tuesday’s House Assembly, they revealed this year’s exciting theme: Careers.
The Carnival will be held next Tuesday, 3 March, at the Woree Aquatic Centre. Students are encouraged to dress up in attire that reflects their House theme and fully embrace the spirit of the day.
House themes for 2026 are:
- Cahill – Construction
- Heavey – Hunting
- Hutchinson – Highway Patrol
Murray – Movie Star
We are looking forward to a fantastic and competitive day at our Swimming Carnival. Whether students are swimming in the competitive races, participating in novelty events, or cheering on their mates from the stands, their attendance will contribute to their House’s overall success. Will Heavey splash their way to the winners’ podium again? Can Hutchinson bounce back from their disappointment in 2025?
All information for the day, including race schedules and event guidelines, can be found below in the link to the Swimming Carnival Rules & Guidelines, 2026. Please ensure you open the link and look over the schedule so students can come prepared for a fantastic day of house spirit, teamwork, and healthy competition.
Don’t forget to check next week’s College Bulletin for a full wrap‑up of the Carnival, including results, highlights, and plenty of photos capturing the fun and excitement of the day.

Swimming success - 2025 QLD Swimming State Championships
In the lead-up to Christmas last year, Sienna represented her club, The Cairns Stingrays, at the 2025 Queensland Swimming State Championships, competing against the best swimmers in Queensland. The competition was held in Brisbane at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Chandler, from 13–19 December.
Across the seven day meet, Sienna competed in a total of 11 races, including two FNQ team relays, two club relays, five individual events and two finals. She achieved 9th place in the 400m Individual Medley and an impressive 2nd place in the 200m Breaststroke - a race that had her family on the edge of their seats in the final 50 metres, with Sienna narrowly missing first place by just 0.5 seconds.
Sienna is now in full training for the National Championships, to be held over the Easter holidays in April at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, where she will again compete against Australia’s top swimmers.
We also acknowledge fellow St Mary’s students Kai, Madeline and Zara, who competed at the State Championships alongside Sienna.
We are incredibly proud of Sienna’s dedication to her swimming and her outstanding achievements.
Well done and best of luck at Nationals, Sienna!
