It was only a couple of weeks ago that we talked about the “I’m totally over study” blues and now we are talking about surviving exam stress. These last three weeks have flown past.
You are nearly there! A few more weeks to go and then your study at school will be finished and then you are onto the next part of your journey into work, maybe a gap year, apprenticeship or further study.
So how do we prepare for Exams? This advice comes from Headspace.
1. Planning is the key:
Just like your subjects have a timetable – make a weekly plan. It’s really helpful to have a structured approach to your study. Deakin has an online tool that can help you develop a weekly or daily plan.
Print out / draw up a physical copy of your weekly plan – having this in
front of you will remind your mind of what you need to do. This will help you to
stay focused and on track, especially when the mind wanders off onto something else. Having a physical copy reminds your mind that “I have to study Maths now.”
2. Prioritise:
Ask yourself what must be done now and what can I put aside for later, so that I can get this study done?
3. Study with peers/friends:
Study with peers or friends can be a great way of learning and sharing tips – however, ask yourself, am I going to be productive with this group of friends, or are we going to get distracted? If you think you are going to get distracted, maybe rethink who you are planning to study with.
4. Be kind to yourself:
Take breaks, give your mind a chance to take a deep breath and process what you are putting into it
5. Ask for help:
There’s no such thing as a silly question. Please reach out to your teachers or the Wellbeing Team and ask for help.
We wish you all the best for your upcoming exams.
