SIRENS, STETHOSCOPES & STRETCHERS: A PARAMEDIC ADVENTURE AT KINDER!
By Kirsty Meese & Leesa Esmore (Team Kinder)
Last week Kinder had a visit from the paramedics and their ambulance!
Two of our lovely mums, Alex and Claire, are paramedics and were excited to share their knowledge, and their ambulance, with the kinder children.
At first, the children weren’t quite sure what paramedics wore or what they actually did. But some shared their own experiences: one child had been in an ambulance when he was having trouble breathing and had to go to hospital. A teacher also shared that one of her own children had once been in an ambulance because she didn’t have time to get to the hospital! Claire and Alex explained that they help people during accidents and asthma attacks. Many of the children already knew that you call 000 to ring an ambulance.
Some children were a bit nervous about going in an ambulance until they heard there were toys to play with and even shows to watch!
The paramedics asked if the children knew what their heart does and showed them a stethoscope and the little "heart machine" dots. One child commented that the heart “helps our bodies to breathe air.” Another added, “and it pumps blood too.” All the children got to take home a heart machine dot on their hand.
After the discussion, we went outside to look at the ambulance. The children were fascinated by the sound of the siren and how the lights looked when they were flashing. We had a demo, and the children loved it! They then got to go inside the ambulance, sit on the special seats, and even have a ride on the stretcher! They also saw how the oxygen worked and felt it on their hands.
Back in the classroom, the children were allowed to put bandages on each other, another big hit!
The children listened so well, and Alex and Claire did a fantastic job explaining everything. It was so much fun and such a great learning experience. What a wonderful day!
PREP - YEAR 2 ENJOY A FUN-FILLED STAY LATE
By Tiffany Russon ( Year 1& 2 Co-ordinator)
The Prep to Year 2 students had a blast at their yearly Stay Late Night on Friday, October 17!
Excitement was high as students stayed after school for a series of fun activities, a mountain of pizza, and the chance to experience school life "after dark."
It was an energetic afternoon packed with snacks and engaging activities, including learning to draw cartoons, playing games on the oval, and an impressive plank-building challenge.
At 5:15 p.m., it was time to say farewell to the Preps, and the remaining students sat down to enjoy a pizza picnic for dinner. Once dinner was done, the Year 1 students departed. The Year 2s then cozied up in their Oodies with their favourite cuddly toys for the main event: a movie night! They munched on popcorn and lollies while watching Finding Nemo, and were noticeably sleepy-eyed when picked up at 8 p.m.
It was a wonderful evening, and it was particularly lovely to see the relationships blossom between the Preps, Year 1s, and Year 2s as they shared this special time together.
A huge thank you goes out to the P–2 staff for their hard work in organising and running Stay Late Night. Your enthusiasm and energy made the evening a success and were incredibly appreciated—especially after a long week.
Finally, thank you to the many parent helpers and school families for your fantastic support!
