Virtual Design

Year level: 4
Year 4 Virtual Design delivers a rich blend of creativity and exploration across two engaging topics. The first centres on character design, where students will discover how elements such as colour, facial expressions, and body language can be used to tell a story within a single image. This knowledge will then be applied in a practical task, as learners design an ensemble cast of characters for a fictional comic book company. The second focus turns to design inspired by Melbourne itself. Students will investigate the city’s defining features—from its iconic trams to its vibrant street art laneways and will then use these influences, as well as their own research into the city, to develop and pitch a Melbourne-themed brand to a prospective client.

Year level: 6
In Year 6 Virtual Design, students will explore the key elements that shape a brand’s identity and examine the factors companies must weigh when adapting their image to attract new audiences. Building on this theoretical foundation, learners will analyse a range of advertisements to uncover the techniques used to influence consumers. This knowledge will then be applied to a major project in which students reimagine and rebrand a fictional company, thoughtfully redesigning aspects such as the logo, colour palette, imagery, and product line. The second half of the term will introduce a highly anticipated focus on fashion design. Here, students will investigate the principles that underpin the fashion industry and discover how these can be applied to their own clothing choices. This study will be paired with a hands-on task, as students step into the role of style consultants for prospective clients (played by GWPS teachers!). Their creative concepts will ultimately be brought to life through virtual reality, allowing them to experience the full process from theory to digital execution.
