Subject: Animation

Year level: 5

In Semester 2, Year 5 students will continue their Animation Innovation. As part of   Animation, students will continue to experiment with the 12 Principles of Animation. They will create short animations as they learn each of these principles and why they are used. For example, the squash and stretch technique is applied to give a sense of weight or flexibility to objects such as a bouncing ball. These skills will be applied in several ways such as using free-hand drawing to create flipbooks. They will digitally create pieces through FlipaClip, Flip Studio and Scratch which will allow them to manipulate the speed of their work. They will also explore animation through photography of real-life objects and using Stop Motion. We will also explore the important art of storytelling in animation.

Subject: Podcasting

Level 5 Podcasting

This Semester, the Podcasting Innovation students in Year 5 will gain a greater understanding of the purpose, process and make-up of Podcasts. Through exploration students will immerse themselves in essential skills such as writing, speaking, listening, presenting and performing. Learners will delve into topics of personal interest, exploring a variety of existing podcasts to analyse their structures and key features prior to planning and recording their own podcasts. Through this ‘hands on’ approach, students will develop proficiency in effective audio practices, from planning interview setups to troubleshooting audio issues like distortion during recording. They will script, edit, and record their podcasts, practicing their storytelling and communication skills throughout the process. Collaboration will be encouraged, with opportunities for students to provide and receive constructive feedback from their peers, allowing them to refine their work as needed. Finally, students will share a completed podcast with the GWPS community, showcasing their learning journey and newfound skills. Podcasting will foster creativity and critical thinking, as well as empower students to become confident communicators.
