Year 3

It’s only Week 3 of Term 4, but Grade 3 has already had a busy and exciting start to the term!

In Reading, we have started a new book called The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. We are enjoying getting to know Roz the robot and learning about her adventures on the island. We’ve been making predictions, talking about the characters, and sharing our favourite parts.

In Writing, we are working on persuasive texts. We are learning how to share our opinions and convince others using strong reasons. Some of our topics have been lots of fun to debate in class!

In Humanities, we have been learning about rules and laws. We’ve talked about why we need them and how they help keep our community safe. We even had a special visit from Mayor Steve Abboushi, who told us about his job and how laws are made in our local area.

In Science, we are investigating living, non-living, and once-living things. We’ve been sorting and classifying different examples and having great discussions about what makes something alive.

In Maths, we’ve been learning about collecting data, making surveys, and representing our results in graphs. We’ve also started learning about money — counting coins, adding amounts, and even practising giving change!

We also had our Parent, Teacher, and Student Conferences, where we got to share our learning goals and reflect on what we’ve achieved this year.

Everyone is looking forward to our Zone Bowling excursion and the Specialist Expo coming up soon. It’s going to be a fun and busy end to the year!

Year 4

Last term being a year 4! Woo hoo!

In Reading, we have been reading the Wild Robot and exploring a range of comprehension strategies like questioning, summarising, inferencing, predicting and visualising. At the end of the term, we are going to watch the movie and make some connections between the book and the film!

In Writing, we have been creating our own persuasive speeches for our passion projects. This means we got to choose our favourite issue (having Roblox on the iPads, AI use in schools, school uniforms etc.) and write an engaging speech convincing our audience to side with our point of view. We have been experimenting with different persuasive devices to ensure we create an engaging piece of work on our iPads!

In Maths, we have begun learning about financial maths to help prepare us for our future! We have been looking at counting money, calculating change and calculating discounts.

In Science, we have been looking at the changes between solids, liquids and gases! We are so excited to witness chemical reactions for our upcoming experiments like the volcanoes eruptions and coke and mentos explosion!

We can't forget our incursion with the Mayor! It was so cool to learn about how democracy works at all levels of government. Check out these photos we took with the Mayor.

Year 5

Grade 5- A positive start to the new term! 😊

Our Grade 5 students have jumped straight into the term with lots of energy and ready to kick start the last term of school. At the moment students are reading a book called ‘Blueback’ this book is set in Western Australia and is about a boy who has a special bond with a giant groper fish and his love for the ocean. The book covets environmental themes and focus on the individual's responsibility to protect the natural world are reflective of broader cultural and political shifts in Australia towards greater environmental awareness and conservation efforts.

We're currently focusing on persuasive writing and persuasive writing techniques, it's great to see how much the students are engaging and enjoying this style of writing, this may be a strong suit of the Grade 5’s.

In Humanities, we’re learning about Economics and it’s been awesome to see the kids asking lots of curious questions during classroom discussion and relating it to everyday lives. In Math, we’re working on decimals, percentages, and angle work, everyone’s really trying their best It’s great to see how these math skills connect to real world situations, like calculating discounts, understanding data, and measuring angles, all important tools that help us make sense of the world around us.

We also had an incursion!! 😊

‘Animals of Oz’ visited our Grade 5 classrooms where the students were face to face with a few Aussie animals right in their classroom. They absolutely loved it!

Overall, it’s been a really fun and positive start!

Year 6

This term has already seen our year 6 students participate in some exciting and interesting learning in classes. During reading sessions, they have been reading a novel called ‘Can You See Me’, which is about a young girl’s struggles as she transitions into high school. In writing, we have been working on persuasive writing, and how radio, TV and billboards catch the attention of their target audience in order to sell products and services.

In Maths we have been focusing on fractions, decimals and percentages, while also learning about angles.

As this is our year 6 students final term in primary school, they have been also working on getting ready for high school by logging on to compass each morning, learning how to use their year 7 lockers, transitioning into elective subjects and mentally preparing themselves for the next chapter of their education lives.

We kindly ask parents to continue to remind our year 6 students to make sure they are logging on to compass each morning, so they can practise getting themselves ready for routines next year. We also ask parents to please remind students about the importance of practising their homework spelling words and completing their nightly readings, as it will also get them into good habits for when they go into high school.

We look forward to continuing on with what has already been a great start to the final term of the year.
