Year 4/5/6

Welcome Back to Term 4!
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final term of the year; time has certainly flown! It’s been wonderful to see how much the students have grown, both academically and socially, and we’re excited for all the learning and celebrations still to come as we head towards the end of the year.
In Science and Geography, we’ve been exploring the themes of energy and sustainability. Students investigated how to harness solar energy by designing and building their own solar ovens. To test their inventions, they used them to dehydrate apple slices, which made for a fun (and tasty!) hands-on experience and we got to sample them all for munch and crunch. The unit has sparked great discussions about renewable energy and how small changes can make a big difference to our planet.
In English, we’ve started reading The Last Bear by Hannah Gold, a beautifully written novel that has captured the students’ imaginations and empathy. Our writing focus this term is persuasive writing, where students will learn to craft convincing letters, emails or speeches. We’ve begun by exploring how to upgrade nouns, a strategy that strengthens arguments and adds power to persuasive pieces.
It’s shaping up to be an inspiring and productive term ahead, and we are so proud of how far our class has come this year!
