Strengthening Attendance – Working Together to Support Every Child

At Williamstown North Primary School, we know that regular attendance plays a vital role in helping students feel connected, confident, and successful at school. From this term, we’re introducing an updated process to help strengthen our partnership with families around attendance.

If your child has two days of unexplained absences in a week (a reason has not been provided in Compass), your child’s classroom teacher will give you a quick call. These calls are friendly check-ins — an opportunity to see how your child is going, to understand if there are any barriers affecting attendance, and to offer support from the school.

Teachers will also be monitoring attendance patterns over time. If they notice a consistent pattern of absences or lateness, they may reach out for a chat to check in and see how we can help. These calls are simply part of our commitment to working together to support every student’s wellbeing and learning.

Families can help by ensuring absences are entered on Compass as soon as possible, and by communicating early if your child is unwell, or unable to attend. Together, we can make sure every student feels supported, connected, and ready to learn each day.

🎉 Attendance Champions! 🎉

Congratulations to 3B (Years 3–6 Award) and Prep C (Prep–2 Award) for winning our Attendance Trophies this fortnight! Prep C achieved an impressive 94.5% attendance rate, and 3B followed closely with 93% — fantastic effort from both classes!

Let’s keep the friendly competition going, and continue aiming for excellent attendance across the school. Every day really does count!

Don’t forget to check out our new attendance display just outside the Butterfly Room — students and families can track progress and celebrate our attendance stars each fortnight.
