Explicit Teaching: Vocabulary
Our teachers are committed to empowering every student with the language skills they need to succeed. One key area of focus this year has been enhancing vocabulary development through explicit teaching strategies linked to the SEEC model.
The SEEC model stands for Select, Explain, Explore, and Consolidate. It is a structured approach that helps teachers deliver vocabulary instruction clearly and effectively, ensuring students not only learn new words but truly understand and use them confidently.
A strong vocabulary is foundational to reading comprehension, communication, and overall academic success. By explicitly teaching vocabulary, we help students access and engage with complex texts, express themselves clearly, and build confidence in their learning journey.
How You Can Support at Home
You can support your child's vocabulary growth by:
- Encouraging conversations about new words they learn at school.
- Reading together regularly and discussing interesting words or phrases.
- Playing word games or exploring the meanings of unfamiliar words in everyday life.
We are excited to see the positive impact of explicit vocabulary teaching through the SEEC model on our students' learning outcomes. Together, with your support, we can foster a rich language environment that benefits all learners.
