Leadership Report

Hello Magill community.
Welcome back to Term 4! Those who’ve been around a while will know that the final term is always a fast-paced one - and this year is no different. In just the first two weeks, our students have already been involved in:
Tri Skills
Morialta Secondary visit
Lego Robotics
Marine Discovery Centre
Year Six Aquatics
IM Concert
Of course, the big-ticket item on the above list is Magill’s annual IM concert, which took place last night. What an event! Students from Years 4-6 rehearsed tirelessly throughout the day, from early morning right through to the evening performance at Magill University. The high standard of performances never ceases to impress all who have the privilege to watch the concert, and this year was no exception. Hats off to the IM teachers; Anne-Marie, Peter M, Aaron, Nick, Reinhardt, Peter M, Ian and Anthony, who tutor our students to such a high standard. Their guidance and expertise shine through in every performance, and all of our bands are a wonder to watch.
A huge thank you also goes to Georgea and Milda, our Performing Arts teachers, for their commitment and energy in supporting this event, and to Rachel, whose calm coordination behind the scenes - organising letters, uniforms, timetables, and everything in between - made the day run seamlessly. She ran the event like a well-oiled machine, handling permission letters, uniforms, timetables, and every little hiccup along the way calmly and efficiently.
As we look ahead to the remaining seven weeks, it's worth remembering that this time of year can feel busy for both students and families. It is a time of year when emotions can run high. Children are increasingly aware that soon they will be facing the summer holidays: great news for some, but certainly not for all, as many children can miss the routine and friendship connections that school provides. As the term progresses, they realise that all too soon they will no longer belong to that class and that teacher, and maybe not even with those friends. Throw in excursions, report cards, and Magill’s end-of-year concert, and it becomes very clear that for some children (and parents!), it can be difficult to navigate!
What can we do to support our children and mitigate big emotions? Sometimes, just listening and empathising with your child is validation enough. For a child to understand that the way they are feeling is normal and that others are experiencing similar emotions can do much to reassure and steady them. So be kind to yourselves, listen to each other, and enjoy the rest of the term!
