PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the latest edition of our College newsletter.
Year 12 Final Days
This is always an exciting time as we farewell our Year 12 students and support them in their next steps, whether that’s entering the workforce, commencing apprenticeships or traineeships, or preparing for VCE exams and university pathways.
On Monday we held our annual Year 12 Graduation Assembly, a special opportunity for students and families to reflect on their time at SCSC. It was wonderful to see our Year 11 students, soon to begin their Year 12 journey, and our Year 7 students, now completing their first year of secondary school, share in the occasion.
The celebrations continued with the Year 12 Breakfast at the Torquay Football Club on Tuesday morning. Staff once again took to the barbecues to serve up breakfast for the cohort. 180 fried eggs later, it was a fantastic morning of smiles and gratitude!
Thank you to our Year 12 students for their enthusiasm and positive spirit throughout these events. We look forward to celebrating once more at the Valedictory Dinner in November.
Wellbeing at SCSC
Over the past two years we have significantly strengthened our student wellbeing supports. This includes expanded mental health practitioner hours, enhanced wellbeing leadership, and regular cross-team meetings to coordinate wellbeing priorities across each year level.
Our dedicated Wellbeing Team includes:
- Karen Spence – Mental Health Practitioner (5 days)
 - Felicity Dewar – Wellbeing Team Leader (5 days)
 - Gabby Beaver – Wellbeing Leader (5 days)
 - Jenna Hoogeveen – School Nurse & Health Promotion (5 days)
Rachel Galliker – Mental Health Practitioner (2 days, returning 2026)
Led by Rachel Barney, Assistant Principal – Wellbeing and Engagement, the team brings deep expertise in social work, counselling, youth work and nursing, ensuring comprehensive care for our students.
Alongside individual supports, our College runs a full health promotion and prevention program across Years 7-12, delivered by a range of external specialists.
If you would like to discuss support options for your child, please contact their Learning Community Leader or LAT teacher.
Parent / Teacher / Student Conferences.
Thank you to all families who attended our recent conferences. Teachers valued the opportunity to discuss student progress in person, and your engagement continues to strengthen our partnerships in learning. Participation was outstanding with over 300 more conferences than last year!
Sports and Surf Academy Awards Evening.
Last Thursday’s Sports and Surf Academy Awards Evening was another highlight of the term. The academies have become an integral part of our College’s identity, providing students with opportunities to pursue excellence and leadership through sport.
Thank you to Michelle Hemley and her team of coaches for their professionalism, passion and expertise. And congratulations to all students for their dedication throughout the year. Special recognition goes to our Year 12 academy members who conclude their time in the program after years of commitment and growth, some since Year 7!
Well done to everyone involved.
Thank you and take care,
Shane Elevato
Principal
