Art, Music, PE & STEM

STEM – Term 1, Week 7
Students resumed their biological sciences unit in STEM this week.
Preps looked at the needs of a plant. They then plated some grass seeds in a paper cup, for them to see how much it grows over seven days.
Grade 1/2 looked at the body parts of spiders. Students then got to create a spider hat that included eight eyes and eight legs.
Grade 3/4 explored producers, consumers and decomposers in different ecosystems.
Grade 5/6 looked at the biomes of grasslands and deserts and then researched about the meerkat.
Well done to Hartley Gaylor and Richie Alexander for receiving STEM certificates this week.

PE REPORT
This week in PE we had our first non-Athletics focus of the year.
The Prep – Year 2’s got to use the skipping ropes for their warmup, then they played a few rounds of scarecrow tag.
The junior classes also practiced some basic basketball skills, including dribbling, passing and shooting.
To finish off the lesson junior classes headed to the oval and used the frisbees for the first time this year. Focusing on technique and accuracy to a partner.
The senior students played a few games of octopus for their warmup and then got stuck into their new sport unit. T-Ball.
Class started T-Ball by throwing and catching with a partner using the mits, and then for the last half of the lesson classes played a T-Ball game.
Well done to the Year 3’s for learning the game so quickly.
It is fantastic to see the great attitudes from all classes this week, and I know we are all looking forward to another great lesson next week.
This week the PE awards go to.
Isabelle O’Brien - For a consistent start in PE this year giving lots of effort in each lesson.
Lewis Gillingham – For asking great questions and alwayd trying his best in each activity.
3/4C - For a great first T-Ball lesson, and working well as a group.
Thank you,
Lachie
MUSIC NEWS
Hello everyone,
This week in Music we’ve all been continuing to work on the Australian National Anthem. We’re definitely sounding better at assembly – let’s keep working on it!
This week the 1/2s sang and played shorter and longer sounds with instruments.
The 3/4s played ukuleles, and enjoyed a song in the Calypso style.
5/6A also played ukuleles, and the Blues on keyboards and xylophones.
In Choir News, we are learning our songs well, and getting ready to break into groups soon to learn our parts.
MUSIC AWARDS
This week’s class Music Award goes to 1/2B for their enthusiasm and focus in Music this week. The individual awards go to Leila Muhktar and Olive Brown in 1/2D for their great singing and participation in Music every week.
