JCU Careers in Health Breakfast

Twelve Year 11 students recently attended the JCU Careers in Health Breakfast where they were provided with valuable information about the health Industry and the benefits of being able to study while remaining close to home at JCU. A panel of health professionals spoke about their journeys into the field of allied health and how beneficial it was for them to study close to home. Saints old boy Carlos Castro spoke about his transition from school to university and into professional practice as a physiotherapist at Cairns Total Physio.

Year 10 work experience

VPG will return to the College on Monday 29 April to present our Year 10 students with their work experience placement and information packs. There is a very tight turnaround on the paperwork required, and it is imperative that students are extremely proactive in contacting their hosts and completing paperwork between 29 April and 3 May. Please see the timeline below:

  • Monday 29 April – Work experience placements delivered
  • By Friday 3 May – Each student to have contacted and met his host employer to go through expectations and have documents signed.
  • Tuesday 7 May – All work experience documents to be returned to Mrs Way at student reception. Forms can be returned earlier if completed.
  • Monday 13 May – Work experience begins.

Congratulations to the 55 Year 10 students who have completed their White Card training so they can work on construction sites; a great achievement.

Year 10 – senior education and training (SET) plans

Parents and carers of Year 10 students would have recently had their sons come home and show them a copy of the SET plan document. Nothing needs to be actioned with the document at this stage. We have given the boys a copy so they, together with you, can become familiar with it, to best prepare for SET plan interviews once Mr Helms returns from leave. If your son has misplaced his or was away, please ask him to see me in the careers office.
