Saints basketball team shines at the Marist Basketball Carnival - by Mr Nick Cutuli
The team travelled to the Gold Coast for the carnival during which they displayed exceptional skill and sportsmanship. Despite facing tough competition from state and national representative players, they secured a commendable 12th place out of 24 teams, a testament to their dedication and unwavering spirit.
Austin Ehlich emerged as a standout player, earning the prestigious team MVP award for his outstanding performance and leadership on court. His contributions, undoubtedly, played a crucial role in the team's success.
What truly distinguished the team was their commitment to a "team first" mentality. By prioritising collective success over individual accolades, they fostered a strong bond among the players, leading to not only impressive gameplay but also moments of shared laughter and camaraderie.
Staying at the Gold Coast Performance Centre provided them with state-of-the-art facilities that optimised their performance and recovery. From cutting-edge training equipment to amenities such a the ice bath, every resource was used to enhance their experience.
A highlight of their trip was an encounter with a basketball street performer, which added an extra layer of excitement to their already memorable experience. Even seasoned players like Yuta Ma and Oscar Irvine were left in awe by the performer's dazzling skills.
On reflection, our basketball team's performance serves as an inspiration, highlighting the power of teamwork, resilience and the sheer joy of playing the game they love. Congratulations to the team for their outstanding achievements and exemplary sportsmanship.
