Success for Saints at the Science and Engineering Challenge

By Ms Debra Fish - Head of Technology

Thirty-two Year 10 Saints students took out first place in the JCU and University of Newcastle’s Science and Engineering Challenge on 19 April. They battled it out against seven other schools from Cairns by building bridges, wiring cities, constructing earthquake-proof towers and designing aeroplanes.

Each school "team" was divided into eight groups of four students each competing in two events throughout the day. Students were awarded points for each activity and the school with the most cumulative points at the end of the day was declared the winner.

The highest scoring winning schools from each region will subsequently compete against each other for a place in the state, and hopefully we will then be invited to the national final held in Townsville later this year.
