Spinchat

On Monday, 4th March, students from years 9, 10, and VM Major met with Anthony from SpinChat, a former BMX rider who suffered a serious spinal injury at the age of 19, leaving him paralysed from the chest down. He shared his journey from diagnosis to rehabilitation, including how he finds purpose, despite his disability. Using props and videos, he showed how other young people coped with similar challenges.

Whilst being wheelchair bound, he discussed with the students how he found a new lease on life, even representing Australia in the Wheelchair Rugby paralympic team.

His main message was clear: no matter what life throws at you, keep a positive attitude and keep moving forward. This left a strong impression on our students, reminding them that while taking risks is part of growing up, it's important to recognise our own vulnerability.
