Principals Update

- Sarah Rose, Principal

Welcome back to school for Term 2.  This is always an incredibly busy term for schools and we’ve certainly wasted no time getting back into routine and heading out on a variety of experiences. As you’ll see later in this edition, students studying Yr 11 Outdoor Education have tested their hiking ability with a camp to Mt Stirling, whilst others undertook training in kayaking in readiness for their Gippsland Camp next week.

There’s plenty been going on in classrooms also, a taste of which you can see throughout this edition from our Technology, Visual Art and Science Faculties.

It was wonderful last week to have prospective families onsite for our Information Evening targeted at current Grade 5 students spanning primary schools from across our region.  I was so impressed in how College Captain, Tyler spoke to the audience about what GSC has to offer and his experience of secondary schooling at GSC.  It was a real highlight showcasing the breadth of facilities the college has available for our teaching and learning programs.

Today we held our ANZAC Whole-school assembly and what an absolute pleasure it was to have special guests Darren Grevis-James, President of the Gisborne and Macedon Ranges Returned Services League and Chris Latcham, representative of the Mt Macedon ANZAC Dawn Service and local veteran, attend and speak to our school community.  The assembly was entirely student-led and what a fine job they all did in speaking to an audience of over 1000 people.  I look forward to attending the Mt Macedon ANZAC Dawn Service tomorrow morning with College Captains Louisa and Tyler and the College will also be represented at the Gisborne service tomorrow by our Vice Captains Umme and Timothy. It is an absolute privilege to be afforded the opportunity to be involved in these very special local community events.

Next week our Year 8 students head to Sacred Heart College to participate in the Live4Life Launch, Year 9 Science students head out on their ‘Mission to Mars’ excursion, Year 10 Humanities students head out to the Holocaust Museum, Year 12 Environmental Science students head out on their Gliders and Bandicoots night excursion, and we will host incursions of Japanese Cultural Workshops and the Pat Cronin Foundation.

Throughout this term we will again have a series of Focus Weeks tied to our School-Wide Positive Behaviour System.  These are important initiatives in imbedding a culture of positive behaviour and recognition that is strongly aligned to our school values.  I encourage you to read these sections, later in this edition, in detail and contribute to the parental survey open until mid-May.

I hope everyone in our school community enjoys a special day of remembrance tomorrow.

Kind Regards,

Sarah Rose
