Classroom & Curriculum News

Year Prep Classroom News

WOW!!  Term 1 has certainly come and gone very quickly.  The children have done such an amazing job of settling into the routines of primary school.  They have continued to work hard and this shows in their learning.

We have continued our work in Phonics and the children have begun to write simple sentences with a capital letter and full stops.

In Maths, we have been working on creating two part and three part patterns and identifying the unit of repeat.   The children use a variety of concrete materials to make their pattern as can be seen in the photos.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the term and we wish you a very relaxing holiday and a safe and Happy Easter.

Italian news: Italian news: Term 1

It’s great to see the children so excited, engaged and working collaboratively in the Italian classroom.

The children participated  in a number of activities based on greetings and well-being, including online language tasks to develop their ability to communicate, read and write in the target language.  The children have also enjoyed learning about Easter in Italy traditions/culture.  Happy Easter to all (Buona Pasqua a tutti!) and have a safe holiday.

Please encourage your child to access the department’s FREE websites, Italian free games https://www.learn-italian.net/italiangames & duolingo.

These programs include engaging interactive tasks to reinforce and recycle vocabulary.    Play as a family and enjoy the Italian language!

Year 1/2

Wow, what a term we have had. We have had a wonderful term watching the continue to grow in their learning & skills in such a short space of time.  We can't believe how much we have learnt just in one term! We have finished off writing our final postcards; pretending we have visited a place of choice. It has been great to see the students be really imaginative in the places they chose to 'visit', but also the things they wrote about. We have continued to build our reading skills and look forward to delving more into this next term. In maths, it has been interesting to learn how to use number lines to support us in our addition skills; using them to also help us bridge to 10 and/or 20. We look forward to reading & hearing about the student's adventures from the Easter break next term when we return as they will share their  holiday diaries. We thank our parents for their continued support this term. We wish everyone a lovely & safe Easter break.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program 2024

Please read the following attachments from Ms Tiziana Scimone about the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program for 2024. There are some exciting developments happening with the Stephanie Alexander Garden Program. Ms Scimone has been working hard to establish some connections with the broader community. One of these is with an organisation called Farmer's Pick. Through this initiative you will be able to order weekly boxes of fresh fruit and veg that will be delivered to school for you to collect. Each week St. Augustine's will receive a box of producej to use in support of the kitchen garden program. Through doing this you also directly support Victorian farmers.

3/4s

This week in our Kitchen Garden lesson, the Grade 3/4s celebrated Easter by making cookies in the shape of bunnies.  They learnt how to make coloured icing and decorated them with sprinkles, marshmallows and coconut. The best part was they got to eat their creations afterwards!
