Principal Update

Thursday 21st March

We have one more week of school to go. We hope everyone is ready to enjoy a well-deserved break over Easter.  We have a few things coming up in the week ahead so ensure you know what is happening.

End of term 1 - We will finish at 2:30pm next Thursday 28 March.

Start of term 2 - School returns on Monday 15 April.

Out and about in the community

Last week our Year 3/4 students participated in the Emerald Village Association’s intergenerational meeting.  This included a chance for students to meet the Mayor. You might have seen some familiar faces in the local newspaper.  Thanks to Bec, Kylie, Liza and Dee for their support of our students.

EDEC Athletics

On Tuesday we had 33 of our students from Year 3 – 6 represent Menzies Creek at the annual EDEC Athletics Carnival.  These students were selected based on their performances at our own House Athletics earlier in the term.  The conditions were windy throughout the day but our students managed to cope well and do the best they could.  We had many students finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th and some will be selected to go through to the Divisional event later in the year.  We were very proud of their efforts.  Thanks to Daniel, Bec, Kate K and Sarah for supporting the students and to the families that came to watch and support too.

Today is Harmony Day

Students this week have been acknowledging Harmony Week.  This is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.  It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The 2024 theme is ‘everyone belongs’.

March 21 is also World Down Syndrome Day.  The theme this year is ‘End the Stereotypes’.  Please access this website if you want more information - https://www.downsyndrome.org.au/vic/

Tomorrow we are having our Fun Run Food Fight (for little kids) and Disco Bingo (for big kids)

Please see the compass news feeds / newsletter pages about these upcoming events that we are looking forward to.  Both events will be on tomorrow.

Students have been collecting donations that will support this event for Foodbank.

Foodbank has been great for our school to have the breakfast club twice a week as well as providing up to $2000 worth of equipment to support our Plot to Pot program.

Students can wear free dress tomorrow. Please note the students will be possibly wet and covered in colourful powder so be prepared!!

Easter Raffle

Thanks to the families that have been donating so we can provide some great prizes.  There is a tub in the school office foyer for people to place donations for Easter basket prizes please. All donations to be in and tickets to be purchased by 3.30pm on Wednesday 27 March please, so that the baskets can be made up that night for the raffle to be drawn on Thursday 28 March – the last day of Term 1.
