                                                                2024 House Captains

House Captain Wrap

Congratulations to Coolibah who were the winning house point competition for this term. During this term every week, four out of the eight house captains go around the school to collect the house points. We also did our best to stay on top of making sure each sport bin was stocked. Congratulations to the students who participated in the school swimming carnivals this term, we are very proud of you.

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past fortnight, the Foundation Students have concluded their underarm throwing unit. To see their progress and confidence develop over the four weeks was fantastic. Their level of accuracy and fluency in using the technique was terrific to watch. To conclude this unit, they played a game of snowball which tied in both Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) and the underarm throw.

Next Term, we will move on to learning the technique to throw overarm and incorporate some Indigenous Throwing games into each lesson.

Year Three/Four:

Over the past fortnight, the Level 3-4 students completed their skill test lesson which screened them on a variety of different skills such as dribbling with both hands, vertical jump and kicking on both legs. This data will be kept and the students will be reassessed during Term Three to compare their results.

For their last lesson, the students voted on a game they wanted to play. Dodgeball was the chosen game. The classes were split into two teams and the focus was on team strategy, throwing, catching and movement.

The Level 34 Students completed their semester Portfolio task which involved looking at what constituted a Positive Sense of Self. Students were required to complete a worksheet which asked them to list a number of positive things about themselves. This enabled them to understand that we are all unique in our own way and have so many positive things we can share amongst the world.

Year Five/Six:

Over the past fortnight, the Level 5-6 students completed their skill test lesson which screened them on a variety of different skills such as dribbling with both hands, vertical jump and kicking on both legs. This data will be kept and the students will be reassessed during Term Three to compare their results.

Region Swimming:

On Friday 22nd March, seventeen of our students represented USPS at the Regional Swimming Carnival at Aquanation. To reach this level is an incredible achievement in itself and all the students can be proud of their efforts. One of the best parts of the day was the determination and resilience our students displayed in each of their races. They all gave their absolute best and as a school, that is all we can ask for. Congratulations again on making it to this stage.
