What an exciting start to 2024 for all of us at Yarrabing Secondary College! The launch of our brand-new Music program marks one of many, significant milestones in our school's history.
We are thrilled to announce the establishment of an equipped music room, providing an exciting platform for our students' musical journey. Featuring an array of instruments including guitars, bass guitars, acoustic and electric drum kits, keyboards, speakers, amps, and microphones, our music classroom is primed for exploration and creativity. Currently housed in a temporary space at the end of C-Block, we eagerly anticipate the relocation to our permanent home in G Block at the start of Term Two. Additionally, the Music Club has commenced during selected lunchtimes, offering students opportunities to collaborate, experiment, and hone their musical talents.
Within our curriculum, students are engaged in various activities aimed at enhancing their musical skills. These include developing our Music Performance skills, delving into the world of Creating Electronic Music through Computer Music folios, and building Music Theory and Critical Listening skills.
At Yarrabing Secondary College, the Music Department and Classroom Music course are committed to empowering students to discover their musical identity through contemporary performance and technology. We prioritise student agency and authentic learning experiences, fostering a vibrant and inclusive school community. Our overarching objective is to cultivate a dynamic environment where students embrace contemporary music, actively contribute to the community, and explore boundless opportunities in music technology and performance, preparing them for future careers in the music industry.
Furthermore, it is essential to recognise the benefits of music education. Beyond musical knowledge and skills, engagement with music enhances empathy, emotional resilience, coordination, fine motor skills, self-discipline, teamwork, self-expression, self-esteem, language, reading, reasoning skills, as well as attention span and focus.
The introduction of our Music program symbolises a new chapter of growth and creativity at Yarrabing Secondary College. We look forward to witnessing the talents and achievements that will undoubtedly emerge from our vibrant musical community.
Happy music-making!
