Stage 1 Outdoor Education Camps: Waitpinga

Last week, both Stage 1 Outdoor Education classes headed down South for their first camp of the year. Students participated in two surf lessons at Goolwa Beach and camped at Waitpinga, in the beautiful Newland Head Conservation Park. Despite some drizzly weather, all students had an absolute blast developing their surfing skills, with most students going from never having surfed before, to being able to stand up on waves and even learning how to turn. Students also had the opportunity to develop their camping skills including cooking dinner on a trangia, setting up and sleeping in tents and collecting evidence of their personal growth. Students explored the Lower Lakes area, learning more about our dynamic coastline. A huge thank you to Goolwa Surf Life Saving club for opening their doors so students could have a nice warm shower before heading back to camp.

Sundai Kofu Junior High School Visit

This week, we hosted 20 male and female students from our sister school Sundai Kofu Junior High School. This reciprocal short-term exchange program started in 2016, but stopped temporarily in 2019 due to COVID. This was the first group from Sundai Kofu since COVID, with students and staff from both schools genuinely looking forward to reconnecting.

At Endeavour they attended English lessons in the morning, and experienced different subjects with their buddies in the afternoon. They also went on an excursion to Gorge Wildlife Park and Hahndorf on Wednesday and students had the chance to hold a koala for the first time!

They found communicating in English difficult but tried their very best to make connection with Endeavour students. Endeavour students have been very welcoming and were keen to say hello to Sundai Kofu students. It was wonderful to see students from both cultures making connections and sharing their stories again.

This week also happened to be Harmony Week, so it was perfect timing to have them with us celebrating each other’s cultures and traditions.

They are heading back to Japan this Sunday. We want to say a sincere thank you to the families who hosted our Japanese exchange students and another thank you to the students who volunteered to be their buddies. Sundai Kofu students had a great time at our College, and we are looking forward to seeing them in Japan next year!
