Reminders & Homework

Some important requests from home:

  • Before the term begins, we request that parents email their child's teacher an electronic copy of a baby photo. In addition, children need to bring in an 'artefact' from their childhood (e.g. a toy, stuffed animal, book, or other) on the first day back.
  • By the end of Week 1, children will need to bring in five/six hard copy photos of various milestones in their lives so far (e.g. birthdays, first days, family holidays or events). Please make sure they aren't too big; four to a page is perfect.
  • In Week 3, children will be asking questions and gathering information about their extended family relationships.
  • In Week 5, children will be bringing home a list of interview questions. These will be used to interview their grandparents/parents about their school lives and record their responses. The questions and students' written responses should be returned by Week 6.
  • Throughout the term we would like children to bring in clean, plastic milk or juice bottle tops whenever they can, as we ‘Target 1000’ during the term as part of our Place Value unit.

The Homework expectations for this term are:

  • Hearing your child read their take home book every night. After they have read, ask them to retell what happed at the beginning, middle and end of the story. Also ask questions focusing on who, what, when, where and why, as well as those that prompt them to infer meaning beyond the text.
  • Reading the Magic 300 Words every week and optional spelling practice. (The word lists and spelling ideas have been posted on Compass.)
  • Revising our learning of counting and skip counting from last term and playing Michael Minas Love Maths games.
  • Optional use of PM eCollection, Nessy and Matific websites/apps.

Kind regards,
