Principal Message

Friday 7th February

From the Principal’s Desk

Welcome back to another fantastic year at Mitcham Primary School! It has been wonderful to see our students return with big smiles, fresh uniforms, and lunchboxes that (for now) still have matching lids. The pencils are all sharp, and the enthusiasm is high!

A huge thank you to all our parents and carers for the smooth and positive start to the year. In particular, I’d like to acknowledge the incredible turnout at our Information Afternoon on Wednesday. It was fantastic to see so many of you engaging with our teachers and learning about the year ahead. Your support and involvement make a world of difference, and we truly appreciate it. If you were unable to make it for the afternoon, please be sure to look over the presentation that has been shared via Compass and is also visible on the Grade Level Websites.

Throughout this past week our students have been enjoying CHAMPS lessons. CHAMPS (Creating Harmony at Mitcham Primary School) is our start of year program designed to build connections between teachers, students in classes and across cohorts. The lessons have introduced students to our school values, positive behaviour expectations and a growth mindset for learning. The CHAMPS lessons align with our wellbeing scope and sequence, as well as the School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) outcomes for Mitcham Primary School. The lessons students have enjoyed are structured and sequenced to build on your students’ skills. This also ensures consistency across the whole school. We hope that our CHAMPS focus at the beginning of the year has built strong foundations for our students to continue to develop the relationships, skills and strategies they need to be successful learners throughout the year and beyond.

Our Focus for 2025

At Mitcham Primary School, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. This year, our key focus areas will be:

Strengthening collaborative practices and instructional approaches to maximise student learning growth and achievement.

Empowering students by embedding a culture of voice and agency, ensuring their perspectives enhance teaching and learning.

Prioritising wellbeing by deepening staff understanding of inclusive practices and consistently implementing strategies that support all students to succeed.

Together, we aim to nurture confident, capable learners who feel valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their best.
