What a fantastic start to the 2025 school year for our Year 12 students who attended their Immersion experience earlier this week.
This event provides an invaluable opportunity for students to connect with the internal and external support services available to them at GSSC, and equips them with the knowledge and tools for getting the most out of their final year of secondary school.
The first half of the day, saw students take part in a range of workshops and presentations, including from La Trobe Shepparton Campus, looking at developing study routines, working smart, healthy habits and more. CVGT Employment also supported on the day, talking students through the importance of resumes, cover letters, referees and how to prepare for and tackle job interviews.
Our GSSC Mental Health Practitioners presented to students on topics around looking after yourself and your mental health and an overview of the wellbeing supports and resources available to GSSC students. A series of short workshops by the Mental Health Practitioners also kept students engaged and thinking about how to apply the wellbeing strategies into their everyday lives.
It was wonderful to have the Victorian Skills Authority along to work with our VET students and GOTAFE to chat all thing apprenticeships and vocational education and training.
Later in the day, our students headed to Fun Planet for some team bonding activities.
A highlight of the day was hearing from our guest speaker, Grace Egan, who spoke with students about the rewards and challenges of making her way up to the AFLW. After three seasons with Carlton’s AFLW team, Grace joined the Richmond Football Club in 2022 as a strong inside midfielder. As a former Shepparton girl, it was inspiring for our students to hear from a fellow young person who has put in the hard yards and set out to achieve her goals.
Thank you also to our volunteer organisations who assisted on the day including Geared 4 Careers and Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project Without the support of our partner organisations who presented and supported students on the day, this event would not be possible.
