Year 5/6 Newsletter – Weeks 1-4
Welcome to Term 1!
The first four weeks of the school year have been filled with exciting learning experiences and opportunities for our students to collaborate, challenge themselves, and engage in new activities. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to in Literacy, Numeracy, and Sport.
Literacy – Novel Study:
Tom Appleby, Convict Boy
Students have been exploring the novel Tom Appleby, Convict Boy by Jackie French. Through this engaging text, they have been learning about life in the 18th century, the experiences of convicts, and the historical significance of Australia’s early settlements. Students have been developing their comprehension skills, discussing key themes such as resilience and justice, and practicing their ability to make inferences from the text. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and curiosity they bring to their reading and discussions!
Numeracy – Data and Statistics
In Numeracy, students have been working with data and statistics. They have been learning how to collect, represent, and interpret different types of data using graphs, tables, and charts. This unit has provided them with opportunities to analyze real-world data sets, make predictions, and understand trends. Our students have also enjoyed conducting their own surveys and presenting their findings in creative ways. These foundational skills will continue to be valuable in future mathematical learning and problem-solving.
Gala Day Sport Trials
Our students recently participated in trials for our Gala Day sports teams, and we were thrilled to see their enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the process. They had the opportunity to try out for Volleyball, Cricket, Softball, and Tennis teams, demonstrating their skills and teamwork. Congratulations to all students who gave their best effort during the trials! We look forward to an exciting Gala Day where they will have the chance to compete and represent our school with pride.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 5/6 students have started the year, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth and achievements. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks!
