Students asked many questions about our science experiment.  We observed and completed a simple invisible drawing experiment with lemon juice.  The juice of the lemon has compounds of carbon.  When you dissolve them in water these compounds have no colour. When you heat them up the carbon compounds break down and their colour turns brown.  Everyone enjoyed being in the science room exploring different science stations to develop their curiousity.

Grades 1 & 2

Students investigated the variables around bubbles and made their own bubble wands. We learned that the bubbles will be spherical no matter what is the wand's shape. Each different mixture had an effect on the bubbles.  We explored different vocabulary to describe the properties of bubbles.  The detergent lowers the surface tension of the water so the bubbles can form. When the water in the bubble evaporates the bubble pops. Glycerin and corn syrup bonds with the water which makes the bubbles take longer to evaporate.

Grades 3 & 4

We are focusing on our introduction to learning about Victorian Backyard birds and Australian birds.  Students are investigating what birds live in our local area and school grounds, developing an understanding of habitats and biodiversity.  Students have created a bird study field guide.  Look out for many of these birds in your backyards that live in urban habitats.

Grades 5 & 6

Our focus has been the nature and development of science and students had shown an interest in the Periodic Table. We always aim to take onboard student's own interests and integrate them into our lessons.  Scientific knowledge has changed over time and students created a short list of elements they were interested in to investigate further.  We will be identifying elements that can be used in science experiments safely at school.
