Admin Corner

By Daniel Itsines

Hello everyone, and welcome back to 2025’s first edition of The Admin Corner! I hope you have all had a lovely summer break.

Today, I am going to remind you of some key points regarding the Victorian Government’s School Saving Bonus. Hopefully following this article, you have a refreshed and clearer understanding of the processes that exist around this initiative.

Receiving your code / portal access

For the vast majority of families, you should have already received your initial email.

Should this email not be able to be found, you will need to contact the School Saving Bonus team through any of the following methods:

For easy access to the portal, make your way to https://www.schoolsavingbonus.vic.gov.au/s/login/.

For newly enrolled families (anyone who enrolled very late last year or this year), not enrolling from another government school, a final sweep for eligible students was performed on the 31st of January. If you haven’t received your email by the start of next week, please contact the SSB team through any of the above methods.

In the portal

Once you have access to the portal, you will be able to allocate your child’s funds to either uniform purchases, or school activities, including camps, excursions, incursions and sports.

The Year 6 Sports Levy is eligible to be covered using SSB funds. You would need to allocate an amount to cover this and then email our school should you wish to do so.

An important note – the School Saving Bonus cannot be used to pay for course confirmations / school fees.

In order for our school to be able to use your funds for school activities, an allocation of funds must be made first, by you, to school activities.

Then, with each new eligible event that is opened to you on compass, we will have already adjusted the pricing of the event, using your previously allocated funds. You will then only need to consent for your child to take part, should enough funds have remained to fully cover the event. If not, the shortfall would be required for payment too. Should you not wish for SSB funds to be used for that particular event, you can also simply let us know.

Should an event already be live on compass and you wished to use SSB money for this event that you hadn’t already allocated, you would need to:

  1. Allocate an amount of money you would like to be used to cover the event, then
  2. Email our school, saying you have made a recent allocation and would like for this amount to be used towards that event.

From 1st July onwards

If any amount is unspent by the 1st of July 2025, you will no longer have access to the portal, and any remaining funds will automatically become a school activities credit for you to use, which will be held by our school. We will then use these funds against each eligible activity that arises, unless you advise us otherwise.

Families who have transferred from another government school

In a lot of these cases, original funds were sent to the previous school, and the SSB code received was also linked to this school and their suppliers.

There is a process we are stepping through to have all of these funds sent through to our school, as well as have these codes re-issued for our school and our suppliers. We appreciate your patience as we work through these processes and look forward to these accesses being made available soon!

If you have any particular questions or concerns about the School Saving Bonus, please contact our office either in person, on 9802 9938, or at glen.waverley.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

I hope you all have a lovely rest of your week and upcoming weekend.
