Performing Arts
My name is Susan Williams and I am delighted to be joining St. Patrick’s as the Performing Arts teacher! It’s been a pleasure meeting the students this week, and they’ve made me feel so welcome.
In addition to my role as Performing Arts teacher, I’m also excited to be serving as Community Leader. I had a wonderful time meeting some of the St. Patrick’s families at the Parents & Friends Association meeting this week, where I learned about the fantastic projects happening in the school community.
I’m looking forward to working with the 2025 Year 6 Performing Arts leaders (Milla C, Olivia S, Gracie D, Amelie, Alexis and Keira) as well as the Community leaders (Lachie, Baxter, Lucca, Elissa, Tamika and Louis) on some fun and creative projects throughout the year.
In Performing Arts, we’ll be focusing on developing our skills in Music, Drama and Movement. In Term 1, the Year 5-6 students will dive into the world of Silent Films, collaborating to create their own short films that capture the key elements of this unique genre.
For the Year 3-4 students, I will be introducing the Black Belt Recorder program, where students will progress through levels or “Belts” at their own pace, learning to read treble clef notes, develop technical skills, and most importantly, play with a beautiful tone!
If any Year 4 students still have their recorders at home, please bring them back to school next week ready for their Performing Arts sessions on Tuesdays. I do have a small stock of spares available if needed.
For the younger students, we’ll be focusing on musical storytelling through singing, movement, and playing a variety of instruments, including ukuleles, xylophones, glockenspiels and percussion instruments.
Senior Choir (Years 3-6) and Junior Choir (Year 1-2) will be starting up again next week. To minimise disruption to learning time, these sessions will run at Recess and Lunch - days to be confirmed. All students are welcome to join - no auditions required - just enthusiasm and commitment to attending these sessions. We are hoping to take the choirs out into the community again this year - stay tuned for more details as we finalise these special events.
Thank you again to the amazing St. Patrick’s community for making me feel so welcome, and I look forward to meeting all of you throughout the year!
