The official portrait of our 2025 School Captains, Jake Lasnitzki and Amelie Villella was proudly displayed at the McKinnon Road Campus on Monday. Congratulations to these remarkable leaders who were chosen to represent our school community.
The Senior School Captains recently attended a leadership conference at St Leonard’s College, where they took part in inspiring lectures on leadership, resilience, and innovation. Students also engaged in workshops, reflecting on their own leadership journeys and collaborating with peers from other schools.
School Captains Jake and Amelie have written an article about their experience and you can read it here.
The Year 12 formal was held on Thursday 20 February at Merrimu, and what a successful and joyous night it was. The students got dressed up and danced the night away.
Our Year 11 students celebrated their formal on Wednesday night and just like the Year 12s, they looked fantastic and enjoyed socialising as a cohort outside of school. It’s really special to witness the kids have such fun, celebrating with their friends respectfully.
I thank Kellie Felmingham, Natalie Same, Kate Jobson, Years 11 & 12 Student Managers and all staff who were in attendance.
These formals mark the last events McKinnon celebrates at Merrimu, as they are closing down after nearly 70 years of operation. I thank Merrimu for hosting many of our events over the years.
Last Wednesday, we were lucky enough to once again be able to enjoy a whole school swimming carnival at Carnegie Memorial Swim Pool. It was a hot and sunny day at the freshly revamped pool.
It was fantastic to watch students from all year levels compete in some close races whilst others showed off their impressive costumes for our ‘Under the Sea’ theme.
Thank you to all staff and students for attending this event.
Thank you to Courtney Hungerford, Liam Adlington and the PE staff for organising and running this fabulous day!
A big congratulations to our Year 7 Boys Cricket Team who are our first Kingston Winners of the year! They will progress to the next round later in the year.
Last week East Campus held its annual Clubs Fair during lunchtime. Over 20 clubs participated, including Great Vic Bike Ride, Humanitarians Club, Art Club, Swimming Club, Table Games, Retro Games, Language Society, Fantasy Sports Club and more!
Each club held a stall, providing fellow students with the opportunity to ask questions and sign up for more information.
We have a wonderful, diverse, and thriving community at McKinnon and providing clubs for particular interests is key to student engagement! Thank you to David Machin for organising this fantastic initiative.
Saturday 8 March is International Women’s Day and I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible women in our community. Thank you for continuing to inspire us with your leadership, perseverance and continued commitment to creating a better world.
