Year 10
The Year 10 Pre-General Science class recently visited Scitech with Miss Daniels and Mr Wornes, where they engaged in a day of discovery and learning. They explored interactive exhibits, sparking curiosity and lively discussions about scientific principles. The group attended Mystery Hunters, a captivating show featuring thrilling experiments and critical thinking about science’s unexplained phenomena. The highlight was the planetarium presentation on stars and our place in the universe, offering stunning visuals and cosmic insights. Students were engaged and inquisitive throughout, asking insightful questions and sharing ideas, leaving Miss Daniels and Mr Wornes impressed by their enthusiasm and curiosity.
Over the last two weeks, our Year 10 students completed a Workplace Learning Program developed employability skills and explored career pathways by trying a range workplaces. They immersed themselves in the 'real' world of adulthood with a commitment to various roles, and are to be congratulated on representing the College commendably, showing initiative, enthusiasm, approach to learning, response to advice and reliability.
The placements spanned diverse environments, including farms, building sites, offices in the Perth CBD, schools, cafés, childcare centres, and commercial shops. During this time, students gained firsthand experience with basic workplace responsibilities and benefited from invaluable advice shared by their employers and colleagues.
The feedback from our Year 10s has been overwhelmingly positive. Many students shared how this experience helped them consolidate their career ambitions, while others realised that certain industries may not align with their future goals—a valuable learning outcome in itself.
Host employers have praised our students, with some even extending offers for part-time or casual roles—an incredible testament to their hard work and character. Salvado College and the broader community should be immensely proud of how our students represented themselves, their families, and the College.
This program would not have been possible without the exceptional dedication of Mrs. Kath Davey. Her commitment, often going above and beyond standard work hours, has been instrumental in ensuring the success of Workplace Learning. While many schools have moved away from such programs due to their complexities, Salvado College remains committed to providing these crucial real-world experiences for our students, thanks to Mrs. Davey’s leadership.
I look forward to seeing how these opportunities shape our students' futures—whether through further education, career decisions, study pathways, or employment. These experiences are a cornerstone of what sets Salvado College apart.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas holiday. I look forward to supporting our students as they step into Year 11 in 2025.

It’s fair to say that Year 10 has been a very big year for Salvado students and the last week of school has been no different:
When reflecting on the ‘full’ nature of this week, I think it is important to consider the role that Salvado staff play. For each of these events numerous staff, whether they be the coordinating teacher or the administration assistant supporting in the background, have generously dedicated their time in support of our students. The sheer number of events that have been offered to our Year 10s this week certainly illustrates that our students are supported by committed staff who want to illuminate the Salvado Way.
The Secondary School will commence with a staggered start in 2025. On Wednesday February 5, all 2025 Year 11 and Year 7 students will attend a Transition Day which will be structured to enhance student success. New secondary students from Years 8 to10 will also attend for part of this day. Other Secondary cohorts will join Years 11 and 7 students for a normal school day on Thursday February 6. This information has been emailed to all families.
I wish all Salvado families a safe, reflective and joyful Christmas. I hope our students have the opportunity to ‘unplug’ and reset for a wonderful 2025.
You do not just wake up and become the butterfly. Growth is a process.
