Year 7 Camp: A Memorable Adventure at Arrabri Lodge

Last week, our year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure at Arrabri Lodge in Warburton. Over two separate three-day camps, students had the chance to step outside their comfort zones, forge new friendships and bond with their homegroup teachers and other staff members.

The days were filled with exciting activities, including mini golf, archery, flying fox, the thrilling giant swing and even lawn bowls. Evenings were just as eventful, with a movie night and a night walk. Students even had a very special opportunity to meet some of the local wildlife.

One of the absolute highlights of the camp was the much-anticipated water fight. There was much laughter as students and staff alike joined in the fun, creating memories that will last a lifetime. It was wonderful to see our year 7s embracing new challenges and forming strong connections. A huge thank you to the staff who attended and helped make this experience so special, and especially to Stephanie Swain, Annabel Bond and Jorgia Foster for organising the camp.

Year 7 students were welcomed to Berwick College with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by Uncle Josh West from Bunurong Land Council. Uncle Josh and his son taught the students about the meaning behind a Welcome to Country, that traditionally when entering the lands of another Country, that each individual would be welcomed out of respect. He also spoke about the healing properties of the smoke from the eucalyptus, and how it is used in bush medicine as well as used to protect the individually spiritually.

We thank Uncle Josh for sharing his knowledge and culture with our students.

As Uncle Josh told our students, wominjeka. Welcome Year 7 students and remember to walk these lands with purpose.
